(18 Jun 2025) Scite has signed a new indexing agreement with the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), extending its publisher network to include the full journal portfolio of the century-old microbiology association.
Under this agreement, content from ASM’s peer-reviewed titles will be incorporated into Scite’s Smart Citations. This feature offers granular insights into how scientific articles are cited and evaluated across disciplines. This includes indicators showing whether a citation supports, contradicts or neutrally references a source alongside contextual sentence-level data from the citing article.
The inclusion of ASM further strengthens Scite’s strategy of indexing publisher-authorized content. With over 30 publisher agreements now in place, Scite has access to more than 1.3 billion citations sourced directly from full-text articles, setting it apart from other AI research tools that rely on scraping or incomplete metadata.
The indexing will cover key ASM journals including Applied and Environmental Microbiology, Journal of Bacteriology, Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, and Journal of Virology. Scite claims that publishers with direct indexing agreements typically see increased readership and a rise in document supply revenues.
By prioritizing ethically sourced and publisher-approved content, Scite positions its Smart Citations as a trusted citation analysis tool in the expanding AI-driven research landscape. The agreement reflects a broader trend among publishers to adopt tools that bring transparency and contextual understanding to scientific referencing practices.
