(24 Mar 2025) Tanaka Ryonosuke of the Acquisitions and Bibliography Department, National Diet Library, introduces the transition of the Japanese National Bibliography from paper-based formats to digital data, now known as the Japanese National Bibliographic Data in this article.
It began with “Nohon Geppo” in 1948 and evolved to digital formats with JAPAN/MARC in 1981 and a website version in 2002. The provision of national bibliography changed in 2007, enabling various forms including the web.Currently, the Japanese National Bibliographic Data is provided through services like the Web Japanese National Bibliography, API in NDL Search, JAPAN/MARC (M/S), and Japanese National Bibliography Records of e-Books and e-Periodicals. The National Diet Library continues to evolve the provision of bibliographic data, with considerations for new bibliographic frameworks.
