(6 March 2015) Both LIANZA and the public have been given a clear intimation that the New Zealand Government has given its Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiators guidelines that allow lengthening of copyright terms in order to achieve a long-desired ‘free trade’ agreement with the US, through a group meeting with TPP negotiators, and via the media.
Under the TPP it is thought that copyright might be extended from the life of the author plus fifty years, to the life of the author plus seventy years, or even longer.
LIANZA believes that concerns about the copyright extension should be made known to political leaders.
