Assistant Librarian II (Ref. 20091407-IE)
Duties
The appointee will work with a team of professional librarians and support staff to deliver quality library services in support of the University’s research and learning initiative. He/She will be required to:
(a) assist the Section Head (Access Services) to oversee the operation of the Access Services Section;
(b) manage the stacks for printed resources and audio-visual materials and their circulation;
(c) supervise a team of library staff to provide friendly front-line services;
(d) assist in compiling and implementing policies and procedures to ensure operational effectiveness and provision of timely and equitable access to library materials for users;
(e) support the implementation of tools and solutions for automated services;
(f) assist in managing access to the Library’s premises and issuance of Library cards;
(g) respond to enquiries, suggestions and complaints pertaining to access services and the enforcement of relevant Library Regulations;
(h) assist in managing the spatial environment, renovation projects and physical facilities in the Library;
(i) provide reference services, and
(j) perform shift duties and any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or his/her delegates from time to time.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a recognised degree with postgraduate qualification in Library Science or Information Science, preferably with post-qualification experience in access services in an academic library setting, and familiarity with Integrated Library Systems such as Ex Libris Alma;
(b) ability to take independent initiative and work collaboratively in a team;
(c) excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills, and
(d) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
