(11 May 2018) State Library Victoria has been named one of Australia’s best venues by the events industry national peak body.
The Library won the ‘best unique event venue without accommodation’ category at the Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) National Conference in Adelaide on Tuesday 8 May.
The win followed the Library’s success in the same category at the state awards for the last two consecutive years.
Adding to the Library’s events offer, a new heritage events space The Isabella Fraser Room will open this spring. Named after the Library’s first listed female staff member, it is the Library’s first purpose-built function room and will be supported by a new commercial production kitchen.
The redevelopment will also restore the Library’s first reading room — The Ian Potter Queen’s Hall — to its former glory, revealing its heritage architecture and celebrating its 19th-century decorative scheme. It will reopen in spring 2019 as a public reading room by day and special events space by night.
