(22 December 2015, Cambridge, MA) Today MIT Technology Review announced the relaunch of a Chinese-language digital operation with publishing partner Beijing Yan Yi Tech Inc. Within the next year, a series of new digital products will be released, exploring an all-new model based on the success of MIT Technology Review in the US.
“We’re excited to extend our international reach with the launch in China,” said MIT Technology Review’s editor in chief and publisher, Jason Pontin. “The rapidly expanding technology ecosystem in China provides us opportunity to tell the stories about technology that matter, introducing readers to the global companies and technologists that are changing the world.”
Kathleen D. Kennedy, president of MIT Technology Review, said, “Beijing Yan Yi Tech Inc. is a digitally focused publishing group that will leverage Web and mobile platforms for MIT Technology Review China. We selected this team for their innovative approach to publishing. They will focus on mobile platforms in China, which should have some interesting results that we can apply to other markets.”
MIT Technology Review China will establish an Advisory Committee of Technology Innovation. Members will be from leading tech companies, universities, research institutes, and government agencies. The goal of this committee will be to analyze, evaluate, and explain emerging technologies that match China’s development, while providing basic supports and networks for the content platform.
Brandon Zhou, Founder of Beijing Yan Yi Tech, said that MIT Technology Review China will be very focused on media technology. “Only when the media knows how to use innovative technology does it know how to present technology in the best way,” he said.
Mr. Xu Chen, chief adviser of MIT Technology Review China and an angel investor in the Chinese media industry, agreed and said, “As a top technology media organization, MIT Technology Review China should follow the model of technology-oriented development, focusing on online and mobile strategies first.” Xu was previously chief editor of Newsweek’s Chinese edition.
