(10 February 2014) The largest North American data repository, the Interuniversity Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), has registered about 20,000 objects via da|ra, the German DOI service provider for social and economic data. Thanks to the cooperation between CrossRef, CNRI and DataCite the change from CrossRef to DataCite services was completed successfully. As DOI registration agencies (RA) DataCite and CrossRef offer different services targeted at different communities, it is always possible for customers to migrate from one RA to another.
By moving to DataCite, the valuable and comprehensive database of the ICPSR has become even more visible for empirical researchers. More than 700 academic institutions and research organizations archive their data with ICPSR. Easier access to data collections on topics such as education, aging, criminal justice, substance abuse, or terrorism is now offered to scientists.
