(4 July 2024) Thailand’s student dropout rates in 2023 have exceeded 1 million due to a deteriorating society, political turmoil, and economic downturn. Parents are removing their children from the education system. EEF data reveals that approximately 1,025,514 students dropped out, marking a twofold increase compared to previous years. The causes extend beyond poverty, with interconnected issues in politics, economics, and education contributing to the crisis. Urgent measures are needed, including home visits, welfare provision, scholarships, and job creation for parents. The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the situation, impacting learning and social behaviors.
