(25 May 2021) The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for Assistant Director, Library Databases vacancy within the Library Collections & Discovery section, Library Collections & Databases branch.
The department is responsible for a wide range of services and facilities, working closely with the Department of the Senate, the Department of the House of Representatives and the Parliamentary Budget Office to support the operations of the Parliament and its Committees.
The Parliamentary Library provides research services to the Parliament, including responding to requests from individuals for information and research services and the production of general distribution briefs and publications. The Library also provides information services to the Library’s clients through our print and online collections and databases, including the Library databases in ParlInfo and the EMMS, and through the Library catalogue, ParlInfo, intranet sites, and external websites.
The Library is recruiting for an experienced information professional to fill the Assistant Director, Library Databases. The Assistant Director, Library Databases maintains and oversees the team that creates the Parliamentary Library’s print and online news services. This role is required to take a strategic approach to forecasting peaks in services and how best to service those peaks. The successful candidate will have experience providing services in the digital environment, have a passion for implementing innovative projects and a desire to keep abreast of emerging trends in library and news services.
As the Assistant Director, Library Databases you will contribute to the delivery of Library services and have an understanding of the workings of Parliament. You will have proven experience in staff management, with an ability to lead, train and mentor staff in a changing environment. You will also have solid experience in metadata creation and curation, and have a proven track record in managing contracts and familiarity with Commonwealth procurement processes.
The role of Assistant Director, Library Databases includes the daily processing of content for the newspaper clippings database and as such requires a commitment to an 8am start several mornings a week.
