(22 February 2019) Celebrated architect Tadao Ando hopes that a new library he has designed, which will open in Osaka in March 2020, will inspire children, giving them the strength to live their own lives and spark ideas that lead to a dazzling future. The library will be a three-story reinforced concrete building with a total floor area of about 800 square meters. A huge staircase will dominate the center of the atrium and books will line the entirety of the walls on both sides. Over several years, ivy will grow to cover the external walls to complete what Ando hopes will be “a green box” containing a collection of books.
