(10 March 2015, Bangkok) Students at Bangkok International Preparatory & Secondary School raised Baht 420,000 to support various community groups, including the Neilson Hays Library, Ban Kru Noi, Camillian Home, Bring the Elephant Home, and UNICEF during the school’s annual Readathon event held recently.
The Neilson Hayes Library was opened in 1922. Then as now this historic library is run completely by volunteers and depends entirely on patron subscriptions and fundraising for its survival. The Bangkok Prep Readathon’s past donations have gone specifically to repairing the roof and refurbishing the teak floors.
A total of 3,621 books and 319,332 pages were read during this school-wide reading marathon held over 4 weeks.
Students were also awarded prizes in six different age categories for the “Most Amount of Books Read”, “Most Amount of Money Raised” and “Olympian Reader”.
All money raised will be divided to the five organisations.
