(13 August 2018) Mexico’s national consortium of scientific and technological information resources, CONRICyT, has recently implemented RemoteXs. With more than 400 member institutions and 226,000 FTE, CONRICyt was challenged to provide 24×7 secure access both on and off campus to shared resources including subscription databases, eBooks and eJournals.
To meet this goal, CONRICyT replaced EZproxy with RemoteXs.
RemoteXs is a cloud-based service developed by Éclat Engineering an iGroup (Asia Pacific) associate company, that helps academics, researchers and students to find and use eResources licensed by a library or library consortium, as well as open access eResources. It provides a web-portal that allows users, after login to the RemoteXs portal, to access open and subscribed eResources via a direct link, without the need to enter additional usernames and passwords. Access works remotely 24/7, allowing users to access eContent at any time and from any place.
CONRICyT was founded in 2010. The new consortium sought to strengthen the capabilities of its member institutions of higher education and research centers, so that their scientific and technological knowledge would become available to students, academics, researchers, and other users. It also sought to increase, consolidate, and facilitate access to scientific and technological information in digital formats.
