(13 November 2014) Controversy is brewing in India about women using the main library of the Aligarh Muslim University, a prestigious place of learning.
Its Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah, has been reported as saying that “There would be four times more boys in the library if girls were allowed in.”
His remarks have been picked up by India’s lively print and TV media who are reporting that India’s Minister of Education, Ms. Smriti Irani, has asked for a report.
NDTV has the story.
The Times of India reports that 2,000 females demonstrated in Aligarh against “biased media reports.”
