(27 Nov 2025) Wolters Kluwer Health has announced the first planned expansion of its GenAI clinical decision support solution UpToDate® Expert AI, integrating comprehensive medication information from UpToDate Lexidrug. Extensive drug information from UpToDate Lexidrug, a drug reference tool used by thousands of clinicians, pharmacists, and hospital pharmacies, will be incorporated into the AI resource to enhance medication and therapeutic decision support.
Functioning in a manner similar to a chatbot, UpToDate Expert AI allows clinicians to pose natural language questions about medications. Examples include determining whether contraception is required when a 30-year-old female patient is prescribed Arava for rheumatoid arthritis, comparing whether risperidone or aripiprazole is associated with a higher risk of QTc prolongation, or identifying whether allopurinol, spironolactone, or lisinopril is the most likely cause of gynecomastia in a particular patient.
The organization has described this drug information integration as one of several expansions and enhancements planned for UpToDate Expert AI. In addition to ongoing work to improve speed and usability, there is a focus on providing more drug information at the point of care. Future iterations of the solution are expected to be guided by feedback from doctors, nurses, and health leaders, with the aim of refining and extending its capabilities based on their experiences and needs.
