(17 April 2015) In Cambodia, books are out of reach for most children. A vicious cycle exists: families can’t afford to purchase books, which means local publishers don’t have the means to publish children’s books. Colorful, engaging storybooks that inspire a lifelong love of reading are frequently absent from schools and homes.
Books for Asia, a program of The Asia Foundation, aims to break this cycle through the use of low cost eBook technology. A project called “Let’s Read!” will bring together Asian publishers, technologists, and education organizations to make local-language storybooks available to schools and community libraries through a tablet-based reading platform.
Project Literacy has the story.
