(16 August 2018) SAGE Publishing has acquired Talis, a technology company, and its enterprise teaching and learning platform, Talis Aspire.
This acquisition marks an important step for SAGE as it moves SAGE’s product portfolio beyond content-led resources into technology solutions that support teaching, learning and research in the higher education institution. This new move is in response to the evolving student, researcher, and library needs.
Karen Phillips, Senior Vice President, Global Learning Resources SAGE said:
“Talis is a dynamic and talented group who have proven excellence offering Software as a Service alongside specialist knowledge of the academic library market. We are tremendously excited to support the growth and development of Talis’s suite of teaching and learning solutions for Higher Education.”
Philips continued: “The addition of Talis and their specialist skills is a strategic shift for SAGE as we expand our offerings into software that supports learning and research. By delivering technology solutions Talis is breaking down barriers to student success, responding to the evolving needs of academic librarians, and overall improving access to resources in Higher Education.”
Talis has built a strong reputation as a leading software solutions provider improving student learning workflow and making life easier for academic libraries to manage thousands of course resource lists. Talis Aspire – a resource list management system (RLMS) – has demonstrably increased academic libraries effectiveness, by connecting faculty and students with key library resources. It enables the librarian to use the reading lists to make efficient library purchasing decisions. Talis Aspire is currently used by over 1 million students accessing over 500,000 resource lists at more than 100 universities in 8 countries.
Welcoming the announcement, David Errington, Managing Director, Talis said:
“SAGE’s clear mission to build bridges to knowledge very much resonated with our own. SAGE’s investment in Talis will enable us to continue doing what we do and to grow faster, serving more students, faculty and librarians in the global Higher Education market. We see clear synergies between our shared missions to support effective teaching and learning by providing the resources that enable good student outcomes in a digital age.”
Talis will continue to be run by its existing management as a SAGE company. As a result of the acquisition, SAGE will provide Talis with an enhanced global footprint to support further international growth.
