(7 Mar 2021) Indology and Tamil studies at Cologne University, Germany has decided to discontinue the Tamil studies department’s course in 2018 due to lack of funds. The language has been taught at the institution since 1963 and the Tamil library is one of the largest outside India with more than 40,000 books.
In an attempt to keep the department going, several Tamil organizations across Europe joined hands and formed Europe Tamilargal to raise RS 1.25 crore.
