The January 2015 newsletter of the HathiTrust Digital Library lists the top ten most accessed volumes from its millions of titles. Among them is The Five Laws of Library Science, by S. R. Ranganathan.
Ranganathan is known as the father of library science in India. In the UK too his laws and other works and philosophies are known to generations of librarians.
For those not familiar with the great man’s 5 laws, they are;
- Books are for use.
- Every reader his [or her] book.
- Every book its reader.
- Save the time of the reader.
- The library is a growing organism.
