In conjunction with Ben McGee’s photographic exhibition: “Brazil: Joining Fragments”, the Barr Smith Library of Adelaide University presents a selection of photographs from its own Rare Books and Special Collections, 25 July to 22 September 2013.
Encompassing the work of eminent Australian and international photographers, this display explores the relationship between image-maker and subject, between traditional training and modern photographic printing, between personal visions of the ideal world and the gritty, sometimes harsh, reality of everyday life.
Regardless of their perspective, creative approach or technical ability, these photographers, whether knowingly or not, have made important contributions to modern photography, collectively challenging conventions of their time and paving the way for the next generation of talented image-makers.
