(15 April 2015, Singapore) The National Library Board (NLB) of Singapore has set up an independent consultative panel from 1 April 2015 to advise it on its review of library materials.
The Library Consultative Panel comprises 19 members from a broad cross-section of society (see Annex). Each member of the panel will serve a two-year term. The panel will provide NLB with its recommendations on library materials to reflect community views in reviewing NLB’s collections. The panel may also decide to seek views from the public through focus groups and interviews.
Mrs Mildred Tan, chairman of the panel, said, “Our libraries are public learning spaces for the community. They serve people of all ages, social and cultural backgrounds, as well as diverse needs and interests. By providing perspectives from our experiences, I hope that this panel will enable NLB to come to balanced decisions in the review of library materials.”
