On 30 May 2013, NDL, the National Diet Library, released the English version of the NDL Digitized Contents and the Digital Library from the Meiji Era. The user interface (advanced search interface, help and FAQ page) of each database is available in English.
- Japanese materials can be searched with Japanese characters only.
- Bibliographic information is available only in Japanese.
NDL Digitized Contents provides digitized images of the NDL collections. Contents with copyright clearance are available on the internet; others are provided only on the premises of the NDL. The Digital Library from the Meiji Era, a subset of the NDL Digitized Contents, provides copyright-cleared books and periodicals published in and after 1868 on the internet.
