(7 February 2014) The first two free online courses by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have received huge response globally, with more than 27,000 sign ups so far.
The two courses are offered on the leading Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform Coursera, which has tie-ups with more than 60 universities around the world to offer free online courses.
The first course due to launch on 17 February 2014 titled Beauty, Form and Function: An Exploration of Symmetry, where students will learn how to identify symmetrical forms and appreciate their importance in nature, art, architecture, crystallography and technology, already has over 13,000 enrolments.
The second course to come on stream by May, Introduction to Forensic Science, which offers a peek into the science behind the tools used by investigators to analyse crime scene evidence, has already attracted over 14,000 applicants.
The two courses are offered as a Signature Track programme which means participants will get a certificate from Coursera and NTU if they pass the course.
