(22 November 2016, Kolkata) Doctors and students are asking whether it was necessary to devote 10,000 sq.ft. of valuable floorspace in the Ronald Ross building to a facility which is in the process of being digitized. Few students actually do library work offline since most books are available on the internet, they said.
The authorities argued that it was mandatory under the Medical Council of India regulations to have the library. But several senior officials and researchers of the Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGMER) felt the yet to be inaugurated library will serve no purpose.
