(21 Jul 2025) Our House Library (Udo), the largest book-sharing service in Korea, surpassed 3 million cumulative books in five years after the service was launched. Udo is a non-face-to-face book-sharing service that delivers books entrusted by members to the home of applicants, with an annual volume of about 1.2 million copies. This is about 300,000 more than the annual volume of Yongin Suji Library, the largest public library in the country.
Udo is especially popular among parents of kindergartens and elementary schools. Based on recommended public education books and members’ evaluation data, it is receiving good responses from parents by providing systematic curation by age and field, and the economic feasibility of lending eight to 10 books at the price of a book is also considered an advantage.
So far, 52,413 families across the country have used Udo Island, and book purchases saved by sharing books over the past five years totaled about 30 billion won (average 570,000 won per household).
