(2 Oct 2025) A new university rankings system in South Korea – its first ever national rankings – is strongly weighted towards internationalization to provide objective information to foreign students looking to study in the country.
The Korea Times, the nation’s oldest English-language daily, released its first K-universities Global Excellence Rankings on 24 September. Unusually, indicators directly related to globalization are given a 63.2% weighting in the new rankings, making it the most internationally focused national university rankings to date.
The rankings assessed 54 four-year degree-awarding universities nationwide across four broad categories on a 190-point scale, comprising education (60 points), research (50 points), student support (40 points), and graduate outcomes and influence (40 points). However, the newspaper noted, “no single university dominates every category”.
