(12 Jun 2024) Jagiellonian University in Kraków introduced a ranking of journals based on Elsevier’s Scopus database to evaluate the research output for awards, promotions, and hiring process. It is found that it has inadvertently included three fake journals in its top 10 philosophy list. The journals, published by Addleton Academic Publishers, have high CiteScore and SJR rankings due to extensive cross-citation among themselves. The journals contain automatically generated papers with fake affiliations, grant numbers, and a pseudo editorial board. The authors and editors use fake email addresses and affiliations. This highlights the need for research institutions to be cautious when relying solely on such rankings in academic evaluations.
