Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) recently received a donation pledge of HKD5 million from Ms. Connie Wong, Managing Director of Wong Sun Hing Limited, in support of the Hong Kong History Project of its Advanced Institute for Contemporary China Studies (ACCS). In recognition of the donor’s generosity, the University held a cheque presentation ceremony today (10 October) with Ms. Connie Wong and Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, as the officiating guests.
The Hong Kong History Project, a large-scale study of the general history of Hong Kong, will be led by Professor Victor Sit, Director of ACCS. Under the project, a comprehensive history of Hong Kong between 1840 and 2011, covering politics, economy, society, the development of the New Territories, urban planning, transportation, foreign relations, the military, population, influential figures, culture and customs, etc., will be compiled. It will take five to eight years to complete the set of books, which will comprise 14 volumes written in Chinese (about 3 million characters). The publication will be translated into English for overseas scholars and researchers studying the history and society of Hong Kong.
Guests attending the ceremony included Mr. Lo Chung-hing, Chief Consultant, Operation Committee of Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited and Honorary Research Fellow of ACCS; Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development) of HKBU; Professor Victor Sit; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of the University Advancement Office of HKBU.
