(14 January 2019) Hong Kong Baptist University Library is currently seeking an Assistant Librarian (Chinese Medicine Library) (PR0246/18-19) to manage the Chinese Medicine Library which is a branch library of the University Library System. Reporting to the Head of Public Services Division, the appointee will (a) oversee the operation and management of the Chinese Medicine Library (CML) including but not limited to access services, stack maintenance, room booking system, learning support services/facilities, etc; (b) develop, promote and implement information literacy programmes and other programmes/services to support the academic programmes offered by the School of Chinese Medicine (SCM); (c) serve as a liaison librarian for SCM and work closely with their teaching and research faculty in the collection development of the CML; (d) develop, maintain, and promote the Chinese medicine digital projects in close collaboration with SCM faculty to support teaching, learning & research activities; (e) provide reference services in both the CML and the Main Library; and (f) participate in library-wide special projects and a wide variety of public service duties as appropriate. Shift duties in evenings/weekends/public holidays are required in the Main Library and CML.
Applicants should have a recognised professional qualification in librarianship (MLS or equivalent) with some supervisory experience in an academic library or Chinese medicine information centre. Familiarity or work experience with academic library resources particularly in the field of Chinese medicine or related disciplines is preferred. He/She must have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with people within and outside the library. Excellent communication skills in both English and Chinese including Putonghua is highly desirable. The appointee is also expected to be familiar with emerging technologies and possess instructional expertise with a genuine enjoyment of teaching and supporting students and faculty.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
