(18 November 2013) Food for Fines is now in its 5th year at the City Campus Library and Kuring-Gai Campus Library of University of Technology Sydney. This year, Food for Fines will run from Monday 18 November to Sunday 15 December. Donations can be made at the Enquiries and Loans desks at both campus libraries.
The Food for Fines Campaign is a way for library clients to contribute to a worthy cause and lower their fines at the same time. Staff and students will be able to donate non-perishable items. They can be canned food, jars and packeted food, but no confectionary. Items must not be damaged and the expiry date must not be before June 2014.
For each item donated AUD3 will be deducted from their fines. A maximum of AUD30 can be claimed. The Library encourages clients without fines to also donate, as it all goes to a worthy cause. The donations will be given to Mission Australia, a local charity helping people who are homeless, unemployed or living in poverty. This year the donated goods will go to the Rawson Project that supports people at risk of homelessness.
