Peter Lund, the UC Research Support Manager and Anton Angelo, Research Data Co-ordinator, University of Canterbury, New Zealand have tried to calculate how much the University of Canterbury pays in article processing charges (APCs). The question was not easy to answer.
University financial systems were not granular enough to see what was being put into publisher’s hands out of research grants.
