(20 April 2013) The Digital Public Library of America is up and running. It has millions of records, many of them linked to full text and images, including many from and about Asia. For example, the 2,000 hits for Indonesia include links to botanical catalogues of the nineteenth century, an image of a dagger handle and a photograph dating from 1900 of Gang Parganongen, an important street in a Chinese district. There are 1,000 hits for Christmas Island, 3,000 for Chiang Mai (in Thailand) and an enormous 106,000 for China. And this is just the beginning because collections will added all the time.
Clearly, the DPLA will also be of much value to Asia. Visit the Digital Public Library of America here: http://dp.la/ .
