(10 June 2017) China is repurposing breakthroughs in space technology to help safeguard the nation’s literary heritage after researchers developed special safes with astronautical characteristics to protect ancient books, the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT) has announced.
The space launch vehicle manufacturer has also signed an agreement with the National Library of China to provide several trial samples.
The new cases will change the traditional way of preserving ancient books manually, and realize a digital and automatic way of protecting them, the researchers said.
