(23 April 2015, Sunnyvale, CA) Boopsie, Inc., the leading mobile platform-as-a-service provider for libraries worldwide, today announced that it has reached 3 major milestones in Q1 2015. The company, which white labels its native mobile app platform to more than 4,000 library sites of all kinds, worldwide, has been downloaded over 3 million times, has achieved a sustained rate of 400,000 unique mobile app users per month and its users have performed over 750 million queries to library databases using its platform.
Boopsie expects these numbers to increase exponentially as AccessILS, its recently launched platform that enables content providers to integrate their catalogs with any Integrated Library System (ILS), continues to gain traction among publishers, aggregators and other digital content providers in the information industry. For more information read the recent AccessILS platform press release.
Boopsie’s impressive mobile app download and usage rates are exceeding that of the vast majority of large, well funded, mobile app companies.
Starbucks, for example has 13 million mobile app users in the U.S. — just 4.3 times more than Boopsie, a startup that currently serves the relatively niche library market. Boopsie’s customer to mobile app usage ratio is trending that of OverDrive, a well established ebook vendor that was recently purchased for $410 million. Overdrive now has 30,000 customers and 25 million mobile app installations.
“What’s most impressive is that Boopsie, a relatively quiet platform-as-a-service company, is engaging 400,000 app users each month in an industry relatively new to mobile solutions without advertising directly to users,” says Dr. Michael Housman, Chief Analytics Officer at Cornerstone on Demand and Boopsie Advisory Board member. “Boopsie’s usage rates surpass that of most mobile apps developed by larger companies with much bigger staff and wallets.”
“Part of the reason that this large customer base is so important is that it creates an opportunity to apply big data tools and analytic techniques to separate signal from noise and learn more about the reading habits of Boopsie users than ever before,” adds Dr. Housman. “This will pave the way for a more sophisticated Boopsie analytics tool that analyzes usage patterns, serves up reading recommendations, and help libraries understand how better to engage with their patrons.”
Boopsie CEO Tony Medrano attributes the milestone to a seamless user experience, high quality resources and user friendly interface. “Boopsie is grateful to our library customers and industry partners for helping us achieve such tremendous distribution and increasing usage,” says Medrano. “Each user who accesses quality information through our library-branded mobile app platform helps Boopsie achieve our mission of enabling libraries to make more services more accessible to more members of their diverse communities.”
As Boopsie’s platform becomes increasingly used by large content providers and users alike it has become the de facto standard for integration of digital catalogs with legacy library content management systems worldwide. For more information, contact Team Boopsie.
