(5 Jun 2023) The Australian Music Centre has revealed that development has begun on a new audio library. In partnership with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and ABC Classic, the library will open up access to past and contemporary works by Australian composers across all fields, to traditional scored works as well as electronic and sound art and improvised music.
A part of the AMC’s current push in creating a comprehensive digital archive, the library is a move to creating greater domestic and international points of entry into Australian music across a broad spectrum of genres and mediums, and is poised as a resource for musical educators, students, researchers and musicians across the country. In a statement, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s Managing director Sophie Galaise also highlighted the significance of the library for music organisations in the commissioning of new works, and its efforts in their collection and preservation beyond their live performance.
The library is set to launch alongside AMC’s new website in late 2023.
