(7 May 2014) This presentation on Library 2.0 explores the challenges and opportunities of the new app WeChat to support students’ research and reference services in a global network university.
WeChat is a mobile text and voice messaging communication service developed in China. It was released in 2011 and currently has over 355 million users. Most of the users are from East Asia, particularly China.
The presenter, Raymond Pun, a Reference and Research Services Librarian from New York University Shanghai, will discuss best practices and outreach strategies to support students’ research needs through the WeChat app. The presenter will share his experiences and observations in serving the 300 freshmen students in the school. All of the students use this app to connect with their friends on campus. The Library has taken this service to the next step to provide reference and research support.
