(2 Jul 2026) The National Library of Malaysia (PNM) has launched the Preliminary National Reading Index (IMK) 2026 study to assess Malaysians’ reading habits and provide a foundation for future policies and strategies aimed at strengthening the country’s reading culture.
PNM Research Division’s Assistant Director, Dr Norsharyna Shafawi, said the study is designed to develop a national benchmark for measuring reading practices by evaluating the level, patterns, influencing factors and impact of reading among Malaysians.
The survey at KKKG was conducted through face-to-face interviews and digitally via Google Forms, with respondents taking between five and 10 minutes to complete the questionnaire.
The nationwide IMK 2026 study is being conducted from June 1 to Aug 31, and Malaysians are encouraged to participate to ensure the findings accurately reflect the country’s reading habits.
