More than 3,000 library and information professionals from 150 countries to gather for the 2026 World Library and Information Congress, highlighting innovation, AI, and K-culture.
(9 Jul 2026) Busan is set to welcome thousands of library and information professionals from around the world next month as it hosts the 2026 World Library and Information Congress (WLIC), one of the largest and most prestigious international events in the global library community.
Organized by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), the congress will take place at BEXCO in Busan from August 10 to 13. The event marks the 90th edition of the congress and the first time it has returned to South Korea since Seoul hosted the gathering in 2006.
Held under the theme “Libraries Driving Change,” the congress is expected to bring together approximately 3,000 librarians, policymakers, researchers, information specialists, and industry representatives from more than 150 countries.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is supporting the event, while the Busan Metropolitan Government will organize welcome programs, cultural experiences, and library visits for international participants, promoting the city’s tourism and cultural assets.
