(8 Oct 2025) EBSCO Information Services has released the 2026 Serials Price Projection Report, providing essential insights into the financial landscape for scholarly publications. Designed to support libraries and publishers during the renewal season, the report forecasts average publisher price increases in the range of three and a half to five and a half percent, before currency impact. This forecast range is based on a typical mix of journals in various formats purchased by academic libraries.
As part of EBSCO’s ongoing commitment to helping customers navigate serials pricing, this report provides price projections based on publisher surveys regarding publisher plans for 2026 as well as historical journal pricing data from prior years. The projections also consider current market dynamics, including issues driving the scholarly information marketplace such as higher education enrollment trends, evolving manuscript supply, demographic changes, and institutional budget constraints.
While this report is grounded in thorough analysis, EBSCO recommends exercising caution when interpreting its projections, as they are based on historical patterns, estimates and current exchange rates. To gain a deeper understanding, including separate price increase estimates by format as well as potential currency impacts, readers are encouraged to review the full 2026 Serials Price Projection Report and the Five-Year Journal.
