(Jul 2025) The Australian Research Council (ARC) has announced important updates on its approach to research evaluation and the launch of its Persistent Identifier (PID) Action Plan. The ARC welcomes feedback from the research community and stakeholders to help shape and refine these important initiatives.
Highlights include:
- The ARC’s Research Insights Capability will deepen Australia’s capability to understand the research ecosystem, to highlight strengths, identify needs and future opportunities
- The ARC will not rank, score or rate institutions but will openly share knowledge, highlight key issues and successes across the sector, and produce annual assessments through State of the Research Environment reports
- The new capability will promote positive practices, strengthen connection between researchers, government and end-users, and ensure that knowledge is accessible and actionable
