The Great Library of Alexandria was the most famous library in Classical Antiquity, flourishing as a major hub of scholarship in the Ptolemaic Dynasty. Rooted in a similar tradition, the 21st century incarnation of the fabled library is at once a contemporary behemoth of information and priceless artefacts; a cultural centre for dialogue and discourse; a nerve centre for research and diplomacy. A significant asset to the world, how does the Bibliotheca Alexandrina rejuvenate itself as a cultural institution, while catering to the complex demands of the digital age? Even more so, how can this apply to the Singapore context?
