(Adelaide, Australia 23 July 2013) Ex Libris Group®, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, has announced that RMIT University is in production with the Alma library management service from Ex Libris. In tandem with Ex Libris Primo®, which RMIT implemented in 2012, Alma has replaced multiple systems, including the Library’s Voyager ILS.
“Alma is operating seamlessly for Library staff. Cloud solutions just work!” commented Stephen Gillespie, associate director, library resources at RMIT University Library. “Alma will make our staff members’ workflows simpler and more efficient, thereby freeing up time for tasks that support our students’ and faculty’s academic objectives.”
The largest institution of higher education in Australia, RMIT was keen to stay at the forefront of innovation in the library automation sphere, having experienced the benefits of a single search interface via Primo. “We saw how Primo helped our large user community quickly find comprehensive, relevant materials,” continued Mr. Gillespie. “We wanted to harness the same approach—a unified technological framework for all library collections and formats—to transform our resource management and overall operations.”
“In addition to enjoying the efficiencies and increased productivity that Alma offers, we are pleased that we no longer have to worry about installing software updates or maintaining hardware,” added Mr. Gillespie. “We also value the benefits, to both staff and users, of RMIT’s remaining an active member of the Ex Libris customer community.”
Holley Dumble, Ex Libris sales director for Australia and New Zealand, remarked: “We are pleased to be deepening our collaboration with RMIT, which is already exploring integrations and enhancements that will further streamline staff workflows and improve scholarly outcomes. Throughout the implementation process, I was impressed by the dedication of RMIT University Library staff members, who worked along with our local team to ensure a gentle transition to Alma.”
