(21 December 2017) On December 21, the National Diet Library (NDL) made approximately 300 sound recordings of the Historical Recordings Collection (Rekion) available for streaming online.
Examples of sound recordings:
- 『ジョスランの子守唄』…A recording of “Berceuse de Jocelyn” by the tenor Yoshie Fujiwara, who established The Fujiwara Opera, accompanied by the Milan Scala Orchestra
- 『ピアノ独奏: ラ・カムパネラ』…A recording of “La Campanella” (composed by Franz Liszt) by Sonoko Inoue, a pianist who made her debut in 1926 and became famous as a talented young woman
- 『さくら変奏曲』…A variation of the Japanese traditional song “Sakura” composed and performed on the koto by Michio Miyagi
- 『第七十九回帝國議曾 東鄕外務大臣外交方針演説』…A speech by Shigenori Togo, the foreign minister at the outbreak and the end of the Pacific War
- 『精神教育資料 山本元帥の戰死を悼み日本國民各位に告ぐ』…A speech mourning the death of Admiral Yamamoto by Soho Tokutomi, a critic
The total number of recordings contained in Rekion is about 50,000 items. Approximately 2,400 of them are provided on the Internet, while others are available only on the premises of the NDL and about 270 Rekion partner libraries in Japan and overseas.
