(4 October 2017) A new Research4Life programme, GOALI (Global Online Access to Legal Information) will join the Research4Life partnership and will be launched in February 2018. GOALI will provide free or low cost online access to law and law-related academic and professional peer-reviewed content to government and not-for profit institutions in more than 115 low- and middle-income countries.
Main beneficiaries will include researchers, librarians, policymakers, judges and legal experts from governments, universities, law schools, research and not-for- profit institutions as well as secretariats of national workers’ and employers’ organizations. Eligibility for access is defined by Research4Life, the broader development partnership.
GOALI has been adopted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) based in Geneva and is currently in the implementation stage with the ILO Library in the lead. GOALI fosters strong partnerships between the hosting UN entity (ILO), publishers, libraries and academic institutions. Its main partners include the Yale and Cornell University Law Libraries. GOALI will be the fifth programme of Research4Life, a public-private partnership of the WHO, FAO, UNEP, WIPO, Yale and Cornell Universities and more than 200 academic publishers with the aim to bridge the gap in scientific knowledge between industrialized countries and the developing world.
Governments and not-for- profit institutions from eligible countries are encouraged to register for GOALI from January 2018.
