(4 October 2016) Private libraries are popping up in cities across Japan writes Kenji Iwaasa of Yomiuri Shimbun. Run by private individuals or organizations, many of these spaces allow visitors to freely eat and drink, as well as organize events to promote interaction among their users.
Their appeal seems to stem from providing a level of service and coziness not found in public libraries.
Private libraries have spread across Japan since around 2011, and now number from 1,200 to 1,300 locations.
