(5 September 2017) In line with the Annual Celebration of the Library and Information Services (LIS) Month every November, the National Library of the Philippines (NLP) in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) particularly the National Committee on Library and Information Services (NCLIS), and the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) conducts the Search for Outstanding Public Libraries with Special Program on the Protection and Preservation of Cultural Heritage. The awardees will be recognized and awarded on November 6, 2017 as a highlight of the Opening Ceremonies of the LIS Month as mandated by Proclamation No. 837 dated November 19, 1991.
This search is an annual activity which aims to focus on the invaluable programs and services that libraries render to the community, particularly in the acquisition, preservation, and promotion of local history / indigenous culture and to recognize the librarians’ role in order to make them more cognizant, zealous, committed and dedicated to their functions and responsibilities.
All Provincial Libraries affiliated with the NLP are invited to join the search. Interested libraries are expected to submit their confirmation and complete requirements for evaluation to the Search Committee on or before September 31, 2017 at the Public Libraries Division (PLD) of the NLP. Attached are the Guidelines for the Search and the format for your entry.
