The China Academic Library and Information System (CALIS) Management Center and the China International Talent Exchange Foundation jointly organized the 2012 National University Library Technology Development Seminar, 18-19 December 2012 at Peking University. Marshall Breeding and futurist Garry Golden gave keynote addresses. More than 200 people gathered to discuss new technology for libraries.
CALIS Management Center deputy director Chen Ling outlined CALIS’s development and its future direction. China International Talent Exchange Foundation deputy director Zhangying Xia described the role of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and the China International Talent Exchange Foundation. The Foundation, in cooperation with CALIS has successfully funded Chinese university library experts to participate in professional skills training overseas.
Marshall Breeding spoke on “Library IT global trends,” touching on cloud computing technology applications in the library, resource discovery services, mobile services, as well as next-generation library management systems.
Garry Golden covered changes and trends for the next 10 years and pointed out that the library should be concerned about future developments and grasp the opportunities they present.
