New project on PDF files

(22 April 2015) The Digital Preservation Coalition, DPC,  is a partner to a newly-funded project that will ultimately help develop tools to assess and validate PDF files.

Led by the Open Preservation Foundation and the PDF Association, the ‘veraPDF’ project brings together an end user community and a software industry rooted in the principle of interoperability based on ISO standardized technology. The consortium will generate authoritative corpora of test files and execute the development of a purpose built implementation checker, associated policy checker optimized for the use of digital preservationists, and metadata fixer software. The veraPDF consortium’s end product will be definitive conformance checking software for all parts and conformance levels of PDF/A under a permissive open source license together with a substantial and enthusiastic community supporting and extending the model.
